Child Abuse Suspect Shot By Police In South Bay, Officer Injured

TORRANCE, CA — Police investigating a felony child abuse warrant shot a suspect who opened fire on them in a Torrance neighborhood early Thursday morning.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, investigators and U.S. Marshalls served the warrant at around 3:45 a.m. in the 4800 block of Torrance Boulevard. Officers were not deployed as part of the investigation, LAPD said.

"The suspect shot at officers who returned fire. The suspect was struck by gunfire & transported to a local hospital," LAPD said in a statement.

According to Fox 11, the wounded suspect was listen in stable condition at a local hospital.

During the shooting, an officer sustained a graze wound and was treated at the scene authorities said. Police recovered the suspect's firearm at the scene.

All lanes on Torrance Boulevard between Anza Avenue and Reynolds Drive are closed to traffic while the investigation takes place. Residents were advised to avoid the area.

"There is no threat to the public. Duration is unknown," Torrance Police Department said.
