Dangerous Waves And Flooding Predicted In Redondo Beach

REDONDO BEACH, CA — Beachgoers in Redondo Beach were cautioned against getting too close to the water as dangerous rip currents and big waves were expected to come along with recent rain storms.

The National Weather Service issued a Beach Hazards Statement until Thursday morning. Residents were warned against swimming or surfing in the dangerous conditions.

"Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly in such conditions, stay off the rocks," the NWS said in a statement.

The dangerous ocean conditions include an increased risk of drowning due to strong rip currents that can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea, officials said. The NWS said the waves may wash people off of beaches and rocks and capsize small boats near the shore.

In addition to hazardous waves, officials said cities may experience minor coastal flooding over beaches around high tide.

Some beaches were also closed on Wednesday due to thunder and lightning storms moving through the area. Beaches and piers in Seal Beach and Long Beach were closed for resident safety.
