REDONDO BEACH, CA — A woman who died early Monday morning after she crashed into a tree in Redondo Beach may be linked to the death of a months-old baby on the 405 Freeway, according to reports.

The woman was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway when she lost control of her car, Redondo Beach Police Department said. The car crashed into a tree near the intersection of Vincent Street just before 5 a.m., RBPD said.

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the woman's involvement in a Woodland Hills murder and the abandonment of two young children on the freeway near Culver City. According to police, the woman is suspected of stabbing her husband to death after a fight at their Woodland Hills apartment.

Police alleged that after the fight, the woman left the apartment with her two children — a baby believed to be 5 or 6 months old and a girl between 7 to 9 years old. Both girls were found on the freeway at about 4:30 a.m.

The infant died at the scene and the older girl was taken to a local hospital with "moderate" injuries according to the California Highway Patrol.

In a statement, the LAPD said detectives are working with the CHP on the investigation and confirmed they believe the homicide and the children are linked. They are also working with Redondo Beach police and the medical examiner's office to determine of the PCH crash is also related, the LAPD said.

The Redondo Beach Police Department has not yet responded to a request for additional information.

The woman's identity was withheld pending notification of her next of kin.

RBPD's Fatal Investigation Team remained at the scene to investigate the collision. Traffic in both directions of Pacific Coast Highway between Diamond Street and Emerald Street was closed for over 11 hours.

Anyone who may have additional information about the crash was advised to contact Investigator Scot Martin at 310-379-2477, extension 3862.
