Elderly Couple Hit in Crosswalk Were 'Devoted Peas in a Pod' Say Family Members

An 83-year-old man was killed by a bus in a Redondo Crosswalk, and his wife remains in critical condition.

An 83-year-old man killed when he and his wife were struck by a bus as they crossed a street in Redondo Beach was identified in a news report today as Torrance resident Allen Shall.

Shall, whose 70-year-old wife Lynn suffered broken bones in the crash and was hospitalized in critical condition, worked for decades in the Torrance Parks and Recreation Department, according to the Daily Breeze.

Family members identified the couple, who were married for 42 years, the newspaper reported.

The Shalls were in a crosswalk on Avenue I at the intersection of South Catalina Avenue when they were struck by a left-turning Los Angeles Department of Transportation bus around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Redondo Beach Police Department Sgt. Shawn Freeman said.

“It didn’t surprise anyone to learn they were hand-in-hand when they were hit,” Allen Shall’s nephew Mark Schwartz told The Breeze. “They were two peas in a pod. They were so dedicated to each other.”
