Hermosa Beach resident and professional photographer Brent Broza saw the MB shark earlier in the morning while on the Manhattan Beach Pier.

The HB sighting caused lifeguards to close water access for about 15 minutes until the shark was deemed lass dangerous due to its young age.

An Anaheim police helicopter pilot spotted the shark, said Huntington Beach Marine Safety Lt. Claude Panis.

The beach was closed because the shark was estimated to be 10 to 12 feet, Panis said.

Once a lifeguard on a jet-ski went to spot the shark, it was determined to be less than eight feet long.

“When we got a good look at it (the shark) was no bigger than seven
feet,’’ Panis said. “It was just a baby juvenile great white -- typical of
what we’ve been seeing all year now.’

Lifeguards reopened the water and posted advisory signs about the shark sighting, which will remain up for 24 hours, according to Panis.
