REDONDO BEACH, CA — Beachgoers should stay out of the water until at least Sunday morning, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health warned.

Health officials issued an Ocean Water Quality Rain Advisory for all Los Angeles County beaches Thursday. It remains in effect until at least 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

Runoff from rainstorms can lead to elevated bacteria levels in the ocean which can cause illness, especially in children and the elderly. County health officials generally recommend that beachgoers avoid contact with ocean water for three days after significant rainfall, especially near storm drains, creeks and rivers.
