REDONDO BEACH, CA — Discovery of a possible gravesite of a WWII soldier halted proposed plans to extend the Los Angeles Metro C Line, according to a report from CBS.

According to CBS, resident Josh Standifer and his neighbor decided to dig in his backyard to find the slab honoring Earl Hoffman. The men heard that bodies may have been buried beneath their homes and were inspired to find them after Metro announced plans to extend the C-Line near their homes.

The slab was found just yards from the proposed extension.

Metro said officials will work with the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner and the property owner to investigate the claim. If the site is determined to be a gravesite, archeologists and paleontologists will take over the investigation to search for human remains.

Metro said they would follow the California Health Safety Code, which protects human burial remains and outlines procedures to handle Native American skeletal remains.
