Redondo Beach Adds More Sandbag Locations Due To Anticipated Storms

In anticipation of the heavy rain season ahead, Redondo Beach officials announced an additional three sandbag pickup locations in the city.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — In anticipation of the heavy rain season ahead, Redondo Beach officials announced an additional three sandbag pickup locations would be available for residents.

According to National Weather Service forecasters, a strong El Niño is a certainty, so city officials added the additional locations at:

  • Anderson Park
  • Dominguez Park
  • Wilderness Park

Sandbags will be available in the days immediately leading up to and during rain storms, officials said. Residents who wish to collect sandbags far in advance can visit the Public Works Yard at 544 North Gertruda Avenue.

While these locations are opening up, sandbags will no longer be available at Fire Station 2. The City Yard pickup location will still be open to provide sandbags to residents.

Residents are required to bring their IDs and can pick up a maximum of 10 bags. Those collecting sand were also urged to bring their own shovel or tools. Collecting sand from the beach is illegal.

"Your safety and preparedness are our utmost priorities. By adhering to these guidelines, we can effectively manage our resources and provide essential support during adverse weather conditions," city officials said.

Assistance is available at the Lifeguard Station for residents who need help filling their sandbags.
