REDONDO BEACH, CA — The City of Redondo Beach will hold a memorial in honor of Mayor Bill Brand, who died earlier this month after a years-long struggle with lung cancer.

The event will be on Sunday, March 3 at 2 p.m. at the Redondo Union High School Auditorium. Those who want to attend the service should RSVP to [email protected].

During his time as Mayor of Redondo Beach, Brand was a champion of open-space policies and environmental protection. After he moved to the South Bay in 1966, he created the nonprofit organization the South Bay Parkland Conservancy.

Brand's wife and family asked that donations be sent to the South Bay Parkland Conservancy or the Cancer Support Community South Bay in his memory.
