REDONDO BEACH, CA — A Redondo Beach triathlete won silver at the International Triathlon Union World Cup on Sunday in Madrid.

This was Team USA's Taylor Spivey's first career win at the international competition. The Madrid course is one of the toughest on the 2017 World Cup circuit. The 1,000-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike and 10-kilometer run course features six technical bike laps that include the Cuesta de la Vega with an 8 percent gradient.

Spivey finished in two hours, 8 minutes and 56 seconds to place second behind Great Britain's Georgia Taylor-Brown, who took home the gold in 2:08:05. Teammate Chelsea Burns crossed the finish line in 2:09:27 for third place.
