Series Of Rain Storms To Drench Redondo Beach: Where To Find Sandbags

REDONDO BEACH, CA — The first in a series of upcoming storms will bring rain and mountain snow Wednesday night into Thursday in Redondo Beach, according to the National Weather Service.

Following mid-week rain, dry weather is expected in most areas on Friday and Saturday. However, a second and likely much stronger storm will arrive on Sunday with periods of moderate to heavy rain through Tuesday, forecasters said.

"Unfortunately the front and heaviest rain will hit LA county during the morning rush hour," the weather service said.

The storm is expected to bring anywhere from 1 to 3 inches of rain with the possibility of 4 to 5 inches in foothills and mountains, forecasters predicted. Snow levels are expected to drop to 3,000 feet Thursday night through Sunday.

Long Beach officials said those living in low-lying areas should prepare accordingly due to the area being prone to flooding. Redondo Beach residents were encouraged to prepare sandbags.

Sandbags are available to Redondo Beach residents at the following locations:

• Anderson Park
• Dominguez Park
• Wilderness Park
• City Yard

Residents are required to bring their IDs and can pick up a maximum of 10 bags. Those collecting sand were also urged to bring their own shovel or tools. Collecting sand from the beach is illegal.
