Shorter Waits, Later Trains: Metro Boosts South Bay C Line Service

More frequent trains and later services are coming to several Metro lines this month.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — South Bay commuters who take Metro's light rail lines will have shorter wait times between trains as well as later service starting on Dec. 10.

The C line train will see more frequent service as part of the changes, which are being implemented as part of Metro's twice-yearly review of the system, according to Metro.
Here's a review of what's changing:

C Line (Norwalk — Redondo Beach)

  • Weekday midday and weekend trains 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. will run every 10 minutes, instead of every 15 minutes.
  • Weekday peak service will continue to run every 10 minutes.

Metro also made changes to the E, A and K line trains:

E Line (Santa Monica — East LA)

  • Weekday peak-hour trains will run every eight minutes, instead of every 10 minutes.
  • Weekday midday and weekend trains from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. will run every 10 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes.
  • Two additional trains will be added at the end of the night in each direction, extending service by an extra 40 minutes each night. The last trains will now leave downtown Santa Monica at 11:54 p.m. and East LA's Atlantic station at 12:18 a.m.

A Line (Azusa – Long Beach)

  • Weekday peak-hour trains will run every eight minutes, instead of every 10 minutes.
  • Weekday midday and weekend trains from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. will run every 10 minutes, instead of every 12 minutes.
  • Two additional trains will be added at the end of the night in each direction, extending service by an extra 40 minutes each night. The last trains will now leave Downtown Long Beach and APU/Citrus College at 11:45 p.m., making stops at 7th Street/Metro center about an hour later.

K Line

  • Weekday off-peak trains will run every 10 minutes instead of every 12 minutes.
  • Weekday peak trains will continue to run every 10 minutes.
  • Trains will run every 20 minutes on weekends due to the construction of the C and K line connector and LAX/Metro Transit Center Station. Frequency is planned to increase to every 10 minutes as soon as the projects are completed, which is expected by May 2024.
