Murder Suspect In Homeless Man's Shooting In Redondo Beach Arrested

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A suspect believed to be responsible for the death of a homeless man found in the stairwell of the Redondo Beach Pier Parking Structure was arrested on Wednesday, police announced.

A Public Works employee assigned at the pier discovered the unconscious victim in the early morning of Feb. 16 and notified police at about 6:10 a.m. Authorities responded to the scene and declared the man, who was believed to be experiencing homelessness at the time, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Following the discovery, a homicide investigation was initiated. Based on tips provided by the community and investigation findings, police identified Inglewood Resident Alexis Martinez, 29, as a suspect.

Martinez was arrested on suspicion of murder on March 6 in Inglewood, according to police. The suspect was taken to the Redondo Beach Police Department Jail and his bail was set at $2 million.

Martinez is due to appear in court on Friday at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Courthouse, authorities said.
