REDONDO BEACH, CA — A water main break that flowed into the ocean in Redondo Beach prompted officials to advise against swimming at the beach due to possibly elevated bacterial levels.

According to the Los Angeles County Lifeguards, the Avenue E storm drain began heavily flowing at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday for about five to 10 minutes. The flow was the result of a fresh water main break in Redondo Beach, officials said.

Visible discoloration in the water prompted officials to post signs recommending swimmers avoid water contact in the area from Avenue C to Del Mar.

The beaches are not closed, according to LACo Lifeguards, but water quality testing will be done to test for elevated bacteria levels.
