Winner Of South Bay Youth Competition To Perform At BeachLife 2024

The first of its kind, "Emerge & See" will have 10 young people create original songs from lyrics written by audience members.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — The first ever "Emerge & See" competition will give one lucky young person a chance to perform at next year's BeachLife Festival in May 2024.

Hosted by Allcove Beach Cities and Hermosa Beach- based Invisible Arts in conjunction with the BeachLife Festival, the contest will have young people will create and perform a song written by an audience.

"This is the first of its kind, an original songwriting competition which shows young people that writing a song is an accessible way to express yourself, with everyone welcome to be a part of the experience,” said Rafael McMaster, founder of Indivisible Arts. “The message we want to share is that writing a song is a power that we all have, even for those who do not consider themselves a musician.”

Held at the Allcove Center in Redondo Beach on Aug. 26, 10 youth original songwriters from the South Bay will make a song out of lyrics written by attendees in a guided songwriting format inspired by David Bowie.

After creating their own original tracks, the songwriters will present them for the audience to vote on to determine the winner. The winning songwriter will perform on stage at the 2024 BeachLife festival on the shores of Redondo Beach.

Not only the competitors will win a prize, attendees will also have the chance to win two tickets to the BeachLife Ranch Festival coming up in September featuring Jack Johnson. The Doobie Brothers and Brad Paisley.

“This emerge & see contest is a great example of how creative outlets can give young people a chance to express themselves, and support their overall well-being,” said Ali Steward, Chief Partnership Development Officer for Beach Cities Health District and one of the leaders of allcove Beach Cities. “While one lucky winner is going to get an incredible opportunity to perform at BeachLife next year, everyone who comes to emerge & see is going to have a great time and will see that allcove Beach Cities is a therapeutic, welcoming venue for young people.”
