Pedestrian Struck, Injured By Hit-And-Run Driver In Escondido

ESCONDIDO, CA — A hit-and-run driver who struck a pedestrian, causing critical injuries, was being sought by the Escondido Police Department Friday.

The unidentified pedestrian, who appeared to be about 18, was struck in the 1100 block of North Fig Street shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, EPD Officer Paul Smyth said.

"At 9:26 p.m., a 911 caller reported that the victim was unconscious in the street and a vehicle was heard speeding south away from the scene," the officer said. "The victim may have been on a skateboard at the time of the crash."

The victim was taken to a hospital where he remained in critical condition Friday, Smyth said.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call Smyth at 760- 839-4423.
