Several San Diego Area Schools Close Early Due To Flooding, Outages

SAN DIEGO, CA — Several schools in San Diego County closed early Monday and plan to be closed Tuesday due to flooding and power outages caused by stormy weather, the San Diego County Office of Education announced.

"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

  • America's Finest Charter School's TK-8 campus closed early due to a power outage.
  • KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy closed early due to severe flooding.
  • Schools in the Jamul-Dulzura Union School District closed early due to flooding.
  • The County Office of Education's Community Schools 37ECB, SOUL Academy, Bridges, and Escondido Community School dismissed students early.
  • The Julian Union High School District canceled after-school ASSETs activities due to flooding.
  • The Monarch School dismissed students early due to a power outage.
  • The Warner Unified School District canceled transportation for its after-school program due to flash flood warnings and the potential for rock and mud slides on bus routes.

Parents and caregivers were asked to pick up their students as soon as it is safe to do so based on weather conditions and alerts.

Several schools will be closed Tuesday, including schools in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District, America's Finest Charter School high school campus, Harriet Tubman Village Charter School, KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy, the Monarch School and SOUL Academy.
