SAN DIEGO, CA — Several San Diego area schools were closed Tuesday after a storm brought widespread rain and flash flooding to the region.

"The safety of students and school staff is of the utmost importance to San Diego County school districts," the County Office of Education said in a statement.

  • Schools in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District
  • Monarch School
  • America's Finest Charter School high school campus
  • Harriet Tubman Village Charter School
  • KIPP Adelante Preparatory Academy
  • SOUL Academy

Flooding "significantly impacted" many of the schools in the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District, particularly the campuses in Spring Valley, the district said Monday. Schools were closed Tuesday to ensure classrooms and campuses were clean and safe for students to return.

"We realize this is an impact to your families, and apologize for the inconvenience," the district said in a statement. "However, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority."
