These Are The Top 10 Private High Schools In SD County: Rankings

SAN DIEGO, CA — One private high school in San Diego County is among the best in California, according to the educational platform Niche's 2024 Best Schools and Districts rankings. California's top three private schools were also ranked 5th, 6th, and 7th in the country, respectively.

Niche evaluated 30,800 private schools nationwide for its annual rankings, including 1,433 for the first time.

These are the top 10 private high schools in the county, according to Niche:

2. Francis Parker School, San Diego
3. La Jolla Country Day School, La Jolla
4. Pacific Ridge School, Carlsbad
5. The Cambridge School, San Diego
6. The Grauer School, Encinitas
7. Cathedral Catholic High School, San Diego
8. San Diego Jewish Academy, San Diego
9. The Waldorf School of San Diego, San Diego
10. Academy of Our Lady of Peace, San Diego

These are the top 25 private high schools in California, according to Niche:

1. Harvard-Westlake School, Studio City
2. Stanford Online High School, Redwood City
3. The Nueva School, Hillsborough
4. Flintridge Preparatory School, La Cañada Flintridge
5. Castilleja School, Palo Alto
6. Crystal Springs Uplands School, Hillsborough
7. The College Preparatory School, Oakland
8. The Bishop's School, La Jolla
9. Head-Royce School, Oakland
10. Lick-Wilmerding High School, San Francisco

Nationally, the top five private high schools are Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New Hampshire; Princeton International School of Math and Science in Princeton, New Jersey; Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut; Phillips Academy Andover in Andover, Maryland; and Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City, California.

Niche said its rankings, now in the ninth year, differ from others that rely almost exclusively on test scores and academic performance in that it also includes input from students, alumni and parents, as well as quantitative data from sources such as the U.S. Department of Education to evaluate teachers, resources and facilities.

The company said its rankings were created to provide families with valuable information — both quantitative and qualitative — on schools in their area or in a neighborhood they’re not familiar with yet.

As in previous years, the Best Schools rankings include categories for boarding, charter and magnet schools as well as schools for STEM and the arts among many others.
