Peninsula Term Limit Initiatives Get Mixed Results
San Bruno voters are on track to approve a term limit measure, while in Redwood City voters appear to be rejecting a similar measure.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Voters in San Bruno appear on track to overwhelmingly approve changes to term limits for the city's city council while Redwood City voters have tentatively rejected their city's term limit reform measure.
Roughly 82 percent of San Bruno voters have approved Measure BB as of Nov. 10.
The measure would implement term limits for the council and mayor for the first time since 1998, when a state court struck down a voter-approved term-limit measure originally passed in 1977.

Measure BB would limit council members to three four-year terms and the mayor to serving six two-year terms. All officials would be limited to 12 consecutive years across the council and mayor's office.
In Redwood City, just shy of two-thirds of voters have rejected the city's term limit measure as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Measure P would have changed the Redwood City mayor's term to one year in an effort to allow more members of the City Council, who serve a single four-year term, to serve as the city's mayor.
Under the city's current term structure, the seven-member council chooses one of its members to be the city's mayor for a two-year term.
Both measures needed a simple majority approval to be adopted. As of Wednesday, San Mateo County officials still had to process an estimated 130,000 ballots.
