MARIN COUNTY, CA — Two accused scammers could face years in prison after prosecutors allege they targeted a Marin County senior in a mortgage fraud scheme.

In a 12-count complaint filed by the district attorney's office, prosecutors allege Ronnie Curtis Baker, 58, and Kimberly Mallory, 52, of Napa, committed multiple felonies, including elder abuse.

The DA's real estate fraud unit alleges Baker posed as a licensed contractor, aided by Mallory as a notary public, to commit $900,000 in mortgage fraud against an 80-year-old Marin County man. Baker was arrested last week at his home and Mallory surrendered at the Marin County Jail the following day, according to the complaint.

"Elder fraud targets our most vulnerable community members, and unfortunately these pervasive and predatory crimes happen far too often in Marin," said District Attorney Lori Frugoli. "We are fortunate to have a dedicated real estate investigator to ensure those who commit these offenses are held accountable."

In addition to alleged elder abuse, the list of charges includes theft, forgery, mortgage fraud and money laundering, with white-collar enhancements added due to the amount of money involved. Prosecutors said Baker has six previous felony convictions related to forgery and fraud in Solano and Napa counties.

If convicted, Baker faces up to 23 years in state prison, and Mallory could serve up to nine years. Both would also be on the hook for fines double the amount that was taken from the victim, prosecutors said.
