Caretaker Accused Of Rape, Kidnapping After Brutal North Bay Attack

Investigators allege the man sexually assaulted a woman under his care and held her daughter captive at knifepoint for two hours.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — An in-home caretaker is accused of raping an elderly woman and viciously attacking her daughter who tried to intervene, according to the Marin County Sheriff's Office.

Investigators allege Yumi Zingkhai, 23, of Rohnert Park, sexually assaulted a woman with memory issues who was under his care at her Marin County home on Sunday afternoon. According to the sheriff's office, the woman's adult daughter arrived at the house and saw what was happening. When she yelled at Zingkhai to stop, authorities allege he choked her until she lost consciousness and dragged her to the kitchen.

When she awoke, investigators said the suspect held her at knifepoint and kept her captive for two hours, while threatening to kill her if she called the police. The sheriff's office said the woman was eventually able to convince him to leave, allowing her to call 911.

Investigators allege Zingkhai returned to his home and told his girlfriend he was suicidal, then indicated he needed to return to the victim's home. According to detectives, his girlfriend accompanied him on the trip and attempted to call police during the drive with concerns about his suicidal statements.

Officials allege Zingkhai took the phone and repeatedly beat his girlfriend before arriving at the initial victims' home, where deputies and detectives were present. According to the sheriff's office, he pushed his girlfriend from the moving vehicle and attempted to escape but was apprehended at the scene.

Zingkhai was booked into jail on suspicion of multiple crimes including rape, attempted murder, elder abuse, battery, false imprisonment and domestic violence.
