SAN RAFAEL, CA — Marin County Parks will end entry fees at five popular facilities Saturday, just in time for neighbors and visitors to take in a sunny holiday weekend.

The Board of Supervisors recently signed off on eliminating the $5 fee for parks and boat launches to encourage more people to visit without the cost being a barrier. The board expects the move will amount to just under $400,000 in lost annual income, which will be offset by Measure A funds and revenue from reservable group sites.

"Thanks to the Marin community for its continued support of Parks Measure A, which makes it possible for the Board to remove this longstanding obstacle," said Max Korten, Parks Director. "It's about fairness, and now individuals from lower-income backgrounds have the same access to parks as visitors who have enjoyed open space preserves for free for decades."
