MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin County leaders will meet later this month to evaluate the next steps in improving the "Four Corners" intersection on Mount Tamalpais. The busy intersection is where the Panoramic Highway, Sequoia Valley Road, and Muir Road meet, facilitating trips to popular West Marin destinations.

According to the county, the intersection sees more than 4,000 vehicles on an average weekday, and weekend visits can send that total north of 7,000 vehicles. The county hopes making a few changes to the crossroads can improve visibility, circulation and safety for all travelers, including tourists who may not be as familiar with navigating the area.

Proposed designs seek to change the intersection's configuration and develop a new plan that serves drivers, cyclists and pedestrians alike.

The Marin County Department of Public Works has been working on possible solutions for nearly a year, and officials presented some design ideas to the community last December. One short-term fix would see lanes reconfigured with new signage, while a long-term proposal would overhaul the intersection with a roundabout. The latter plan would require more money, engineering work and coordination with neighboring landowners.

The DPW will participate in an online public meeting later this month, where officials will review the proposal and receive updates on a short-term solution, then welcome public feedback.
