Marin County Fair Opens Wednesday​

The 2019 Marin County Fair opens Wednesday with an "Over the Moon" theme to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 1969.​

SAN RAFAEL, CA – The 2019 Marin County Fair opens Wednesday with an "Over the Moon" theme to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 1969.

Themed exhibits at the five-day fair include paper and decorated moons, moonscape photography and a cheese of the day as homage to the tale that the moon is made of cheese. The fair will also celebrate art, agriculture and community. In addition, there are 28 carnival rides and games.

A series of concerts starts with Dwight Yoakam at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. On Thursday, The Distractions, an Elvis Costello tribute band, plays at 3 p.m., and ABBA The Concert at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, Steel Pulse starts at 7:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts play at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Mariachi Divas and Cheap Trick play at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Reserved seating is sold out for most shows, but general admission is available.

The fair at 10 Avenue of the Flags is open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Fireworks will take place every night at 9:30 p.m.

Tickets at the gate or at the box office in advance are $20 for adults 19 and older and $15 for teens 13-18. Kids 12 and younger get in free Wednesday and active military members get in free all five days.

Getting to the Fair

Marin Transit will provide free local transit rides countywide on all Marin Transit fixed route and Connect services during the fair. Visit marintransit.org for more information on routes and schedules.

Fair guests can also ride Golden Gate Transit and the SMART train directly to the Marin County Civic Center campus. SMART is adding a late departure train from the Civic Center station at 10:30 p.m. following the fireworks. Check transit schedules for pricing and timing.

Shuttle to the Fair

Take the Marin County Fair Shuttle to the fairgrounds. Park your car at Marin Commons at 1600 Los Gamos Drive in San Rafael. Shuttle parking is free and shuttle rides are $2 per person (children under 4 ride free). The service is provided 10 a.m.–11:30 p.m.

Bike to the Fair

Bicycle valet parking is available daily at the Main Gate.

  • Wednesday and Sunday: 11 a.m.–7 p.m.
  • Thursday through Saturday: 11 a.m.–11 p.m.

Carpool to the Fair

Car and motorcycle parking costs $15–$20.
