SAN RAFAEL, CA — Tuesday is National Voter Registration Day, and the Marin County Elections Department will be spending the morning and afternoon helping residents prepare for the 2024 election cycle.

According to the county, the annual civic holiday is designed to help reach potential voters with information and resources to participate in the democratic process. This year, Registrar of Voters Lynda Roberts will be available for two hours to directly answer residents' questions and hear their concerns.

All residents of legal voting age are invited to join in at the Marin County Civic Center starting at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The Canal Alliance will have Spanish interpreters available to help those with a language barrier.

While Marin County typically sees high voter participation during elections, officials note nearly 20,000 residents are eligible to vote but have not registered.

"National Voter Registration Day is about participation," Roberts said Friday. "Democracy works best when people vote, so we want to remind them how important elections are — local and national."
