Marin Schools To Remain Under Mask Mandate: Report

Plans to lift the state mask mandate on Feb. 16 don't apply schools, one of Marin's top health officials said, according to the report.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — Marin’s mask mandate for schools is expected to remain in effect through next month, The Marin Independent Journal reports.

One of Marin’s top health officials said the state’s plans to lift the mask mandate on Feb. 16 for fully vaccinated people doesn't include schools, according to the report.

Deputy Public Health Officer Dr. Lisa Santora’s announcement comes amid a rapid decline of the omicron-fueled surge. The hyper-contagious variant trigged a case explosion in early-to mid-January but has since petered out.

She made the announcement during a Marin County Office of Education webinar, the report said.

“Even though we are headed in the right direction, and transmission is going down, there is still a lot of COVID circulating in our whole community,” Santora said, according to the report.

“We’re not anticipating any relaxation on this before March 31.”
