MOUNT TAMALPAIS, CA — A section of the Panoramic Highway will be down to one lane starting Monday as crews build a new retaining wall just south of the Mountain Home Inn.

The project is the latest step in a slate of slide repairs that got underway in November to replace pavement, guardrails and walls damaged during a major storm in October 2021, when a foot of rain fell over the mountain in just 24 hours.

The construction zone impacts about 700 feet of the highway at milepost 2.26, roughly 1.3 miles northwest of Four Corners. Starting Monday, a temporary traffic signal will alternate traffic over a single lane, which could delay travelers for up to 10 minutes.

The route is popular with people heading to and from Marin's Pacific beaches, Mount Tamalpais State Park, Muir Wood National Monument, Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Work on the retaining wall is scheduled to begin Monday, Jan. 29, and last through March, but officials warn future weather impacts could lengthen the timeline.
