Openings on Marin's Assessment Appeals Boards

The county is looking for expects in real estate, accounting, law or property appraisal.

The County of Marin is recruiting candidates with expertise in real estate, accounting, law or property appraisal as potential new members of its two Marin County Assessment Appeals Boards. The application deadline is 5 p.m. September 4.

Appointed by the Marin County Board of Supervisors, the Assessment Appeals Board members hear appeals by property owners regarding values set by the County Assessor. In recent years, the caseload of the state-mandated Assessment Appeals Boards has necessitated hearings about every four weeks. Appeals are heard alternately by the two boards and might include additional meetings. Board members are paid a stipend per meeting.

Candidates must have at least five years of professional experience in California as one of the following: certified public accountant; public accountant; licensed real estate broker; attorney; property appraiser accredited by a nationally recognized professional organization; property appraiser certified by the Office of Real Estate Appraisers; or property appraiser certified by the State Board of Equalization.
