MARIN COUNTY, CA — A project to repair a stretch of the Panoramic Highway is set to kick off later this month, which will see a stretch of the roadway reduced to a single lane into the spring.

The highway is a popular route for visitors traveling between Mount Tamalpais State Park, Muir Wood National Monument, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Marin's coastal beaches.

According to the county, construction work may delay some travel between Mount Tam and Stinson Beach as crews install new retaining walls, guardrails and pavement. The area was damaged by a major storm in October 2021, when a foot of rain fell over 24 hours.

Officials said the project will be concentrated along a 700-foot stretch of road parallel to Marin View Avenue, roughly 1.3 miles northwest of Four Corners. Crews plan to begin later this month, utilizing a temporary traffic signal to alternate travel over the single lane.

Drivers and cyclists can expect typical delays of 5 to 10 minutes, and the Panoramic Trail will be closed during work hours.

According to the county, the Panoramic Highway project joins a dozen others slated for guardrail replacement in the coming months, supported by federal funding.
