MARIN COUNTY, CA — Reports of a man with a gun near a Marin County middle school prompted the brief lockdown at a basketball practice Thursday night, but deputies did not locate anyone during a thorough search, according to the sheriff's office.

Officials said a 911 caller called around 7 p.m. Thursday to pass along a report from a young person who said they had seen a man with a gun in the area of Kent Middle School. A second caller said they had seen a man matching the description but did not see a gun — only a cellphone.

Deputies arrived at the school and locked down the gym, where a basketball team was practicing, to investigate. After they completed an exhaustive search, deputies reported finding no evidence or people matching what was reported. Out of an abundance of caution, deputies escorted the students and their parents to their vehicles.
