SAN RAFAEL, CA — Significant repair work to the toll plaza on the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge will keep three westbound lanes and an on-ramp closed for up to three weeks, according to Caltrans.

The repairs follow a deadly crash Monday that engulfed a semi-truck and toll booth in flames, killing one.

In a news release Friday, Caltrans said three far-right westbound lanes would remain closed until repairs could be completed, along with the Stenmark Drive on-ramp in Richmond. Wide-load trucks will not be allowed on the bridge and will need to use State Route 37 to travel into Marin County.

Officials estimated the repairs would take three weeks to complete, allowing crews time to install concrete barriers, channelizers and striping, then repair the canopy and other safety components.

Caltrans said westbound drivers should expect some delays during the course of the project, but all eastbound lanes will remain open. Bike lanes will be closed on certain dates through November to allow crews to complete regular safety inspections.
