San Rafael High's Jake Verweil K's 10 In Season Finale

SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael High pitching standout Jake Verweil concluded his prep career with a strong performance but it wasn’t enough to stop one of Northern California’s hottest teams.

Verweil struck out 10 and walked none but the lefty took the loss in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Marin County Athletic League champion Tamalpais.

Tamalpais scored four runs (three earned) off Verweil on 10 hits as the Red Tailed Hawks won their seventh straight game.

Tamalpais improved to 19-1 overall as it finished its 10-game MCAL season unbeaten.

Max Shilstone had one hit and one RBI to lead the Bulldogs offensively.

Verweil reached double digits in strikeouts for the second time this season. He struck out 11in a 7-0 May 7 league victory over Archie Williams.

Verweil finished the season going 1-6 with a 2.53 ERA. He struck out 48 and walked 14 in 44 1/3 innings. Opponents hit just .231 and had a .296 on-base percentage against Verweil.

Jake Moore and Henry Basnight each had two hits to lead Tamalpais offensively.

Tamalpais starter Alex Dargan pitched five innings for the win. Dargan struck out 10, walked three and gave up one run and hits.
