SAN RAFAEL, CA — San Rafael Mayor Kate Colin joined housing groups last week to celebrate the completion of the newly renovated Centertown Apartments, offering dozens of one, two and three-bedroom units to families and individuals in lower income brackets.

Over the last two years, the city has worked with EAH Housing and BRIDGE Housing to extensively rehabilitate the building's interior and exterior on C Street. The newly-renovated five-story facility offers 60 units of affordable housing for residents and households making 30 to 60 percent of the Area Median Income.

The renovated property features a central landscaped courtyard and the units include a mixture of flats and townhouses. The project also included extensive seismic and ADA upgrades, a new entry system, more energy-efficient systems, a new community building, an outdoor gathering space, and a barbecue area.

"As we navigate the challenges of homelessness and housing instability in our beloved city, the reopening of Centertown is a significant step forward in our ongoing commitment to ensure that every resident of San Rafael has a place to call home," Colin said. "This renovated affordable housing development signifies our city's commitment to providing not just roofs over heads, but nurturing environments where individuals and families can thrive."

Centertown sits just a block from San Rafael's downtown corridor and within walking distance of several stores, public parks and the community center. The property has more than 100 parking spaces, a communal laundry room, and rooftop solar panels, with on-site health and wellness classes and other amenities.
