Sandy Springs Launches Indoor Art Program

The program is with Art Sandy Springs, a nonprofit seeking to enrich the quality of life for Sandy Springs residents and visitors with art.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The City of Sandy Springs unveiled the first works as part of its rotating art program to be featured inside City Hall a few weeks ago featuring paintings by Sandy Springs resident and artist, Gary Bodner.

The art program is in collaboration with Art Sandy Springs, a nonprofit dedicated to enriching the quality of life for Sandy Springs residents and visitors through public art and special arts events. The city collaborated with Art Sandy Springs to develop Arts in the Open, a competitive sculpture program with nine finalists displaying sculptures on the City Green. The city will select one or more pieces this coming spring for permanent installation.

“There is no question that art enhances a community, not only aesthetically, but enhancing the quality of life, encouraging creativity, and drawing in visitors. We are excited and committed to incorporating and enhancing our artistic footprint throughout the city,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.

Art exhibits at City Springs will rotate quarterly to showcase different works of art. The city is working with Art Sandy Springs to develop program criteria for future installations.

Bodner has deep roots within the Sandy Springs area, having practiced medicine in Obstetrics and Gynecology for 37 years. His interest in art extends through that same period. Bodner studied architecture at Miami University of Ohio before entering medical school. Upon retirement from medicine, Bodner devoted himself to painting full time, and he says his inspiration comes from artists Cezanne and Van Gogh, and architect Philip Johnson. He describes his work as strong and colorful with an expressionistic style.

“The power of juxtaposing or placing one color on top of another to create an image is what drives my paintings,” Bodner said.

Anne Irwin Fine Art Gallery represents Bodner. Additional works by the artist can be seen at www.anneirwinfineart.com.
