SAN RAFAEL, CA — Police recovered a tractor stolen from a San Rafael construction site after it was discovered abandoned in a parking lot, officials said Monday.

According to police, a report came in about a tractor and trailer mysteriously left in the middle of a lot shortly after fielding the initial theft report. Investigators verified the tractor was the one they were looking for and soon found the trailer it was in was also reported stolen.

Officers said it appeared the suspects attempted to use the stolen trailer to tow to tractor but soon gave up due to issues with the getaway truck's trailer hitch. Police said both the tractor and trailer were returned to their owners, and officers are still searching for leads on the suspects.
