SAN RAFAEL, CA — As the latest atmospheric river barrels through the Bay Area, with another possible next week, the Ritter Center is embarking on a two-week campaign to collect rain gear that will help people in need stay dry and warm. The latest storm was forecast to dump 3 to 4 inches of rain in areas of the North Bay through Thursday afternoon.

The organization kicked off the campaign Wednesday with a public appeal to donate items like raincoats, ponchos, rain boots and tents. The donation drive will accept new or gently used items, and neighbors can also support the effort by donating money online.

"Ritter Center began when a small number of Marin residents came together to address the fact that some in our community were not getting their basic needs met," said Mark Shotwell, the center's CEO. "Outreach workers know that what most every person on the streets wants is to be housed. During this wet, cold winter, let's make sure that we do everything we can to help those living on the streets."
