SANTA CRUZ, CA — A 79-year-old Aptos man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after crashing his car into another vehicle, leading to both cars overturning on state Highway 1 in Santa Cruz on Wednesday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

David Barnes was arrested following the crash reported around 4:25 p.m. on northbound Highway 1 north of North Branciforte Avenue, CHP officials said.

Barnes was driving a green 1996 Acura Integra when, for some reason, crashed into a 2015 Toyota Corolla on the highway, causing both cars to hit the metal guardrail and then overturn. Barnes was ejected from the vehicle in the crash, according to the CHP.
