Head-On Collision Leaves 2 Drivers Dead South Of Salinas

An eastbound Mazda CX9 veered across the grass median and into the westbound lanes, striking a Honda CRV, the CHP said in a Facebook post.

SALINAS, CA — A head-on collision on state Highway 68 south of Salinas left both drivers dead, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

The crash occurred about 4:45 p.m. Friday, west of Spreckels Boulevard, when an eastbound Mazda CX9 veered across the grass median and into the westbound lanes, striking a Honda CRV, the CHP said in a Facebook post.

The driver of the Mazda, a 64-year-old Salinas man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda, a 51-year-old Salinas woman, was taken to a hospital where she died, police said.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. It wasn't known whether alcohol or drugs were a factor, the CHP said.
