Active Shooter Tip At Santa Cruz High School Likely A Prank: School

SANTA CRUZ, CA — An active shooter tip at Santa Cruz High School Thursday that prompted a lockdown and a massive police response at the campus was likely false.

Police are considering the anonymous tip a prank, according to Santa Cruz City Schools. The district added that there has been no evidence of a shooter, violence, or any threat.

Santa Cruz Police confirmed in a tweet that they responded to the high school.

"Santa Cruz Police responded to a report of an active shooter at Santa Cruz High School," the agency tweeted at 10:45 a.m. "At this time, it is not evident that there was an active shooter and no injured persons have been located."

Police said parents can meet up with their students at Depot Park.

Photos and videos posted to Twitter showed police cars racing to the school's campus early Thursday.

A photojournalist at the scene said there were "a massive amount of sirens."

Mission Hills Middle School and Bayview Elementary were also on lockdown, according to NBC Bay Area.
