5 Things Ahead This Week In Santa Monica

Here are five things to know about this upcoming week in Santa Monica.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A brand new month has started, making way for May's warmer weather and many more beach days in Santa Monica.

The week ahead is a busy one for Santa Monica residents, here are five things to look out for:

  1. Bike Month will kick off in May in Santa Monica with the Bike It, Walk It, Bus It event aimed at promoting sustainable and safe transportation for students in Santa Monica. From Monday to Friday, Santa Monica schools will compete for the coveted Golden Sneaker award, which is earned by having the highest participation rate in the eco-friendly movement. The Big Blue Bus is in on the fun and will offer free rides to anyone who presents their bike helmet to operators during the week.   2. All amusement park games and rides at Pacific Park will close early on Thursday will be closed early for a private event. For more information and to see the park's operating hours, visit Pacific Park's website.
  3. The Santa Monica Police Department will conduct a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location in the city on Friday, May 5 from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. Locations for checkpoints are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes according to SMPD.
  4. Also on Friday, residents looking for a laugh can buy tickets to Drunk Theatre LA, a show that'll feature a comedian taking five shots of whiskey and improvising a play with five sober comedians.   5. Conscious Market on Third Street Promenade is back again this month on Saturday, May 6. Residents can meet local designers, brands and new businesses.
