SANTA MONICA, CA — Be careful where you park in Santa Monica, you just may end up with an expensive ticket with new parking enforcement.

Starting Nov. 1, the city will ticket any cars driving or parked on a sidewalk, parkway, curb or other public right-of-way not intended for cars. The rule does not apply to driveways, but does apply to the "driveway apron," or the space between public and private property on driveways. The rule also prohibits parking near the sidewalk where there is no curb.

The rule also applies to parkways, which is generally between the sidewalk and curb or roadway.

Tickets for such parking will be $63 per violation, according to the city.

"The City is committed to ensuring that its streets, sidewalks, and public-right-of way areas are safe, accessible, and equitably available for all residents and visitors," the city said in a news release.
