Big Jo's Burger Joint To Close In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CA — After 65 years in business, Big Jo's in Santa Monica will serve up its last burgers on Monday.

The beloved burger spot announced their Santa Monica closure on social media last week.

"From our family to yours, we just wasn't to THANK YOU for all the love and support over the last 65 years. It has truly been an honor and pleasure serving the Santa Monica community," Big Jo's said in an Instagram post.

But it's not necessarily the end for this long-standing community staple. The spot will be relocating, Big Jo's said on Instagram.

Tons of locals took to social media to share stories about Big Jo's and mourn the loss.

"In 2007, at the Samohi baseball banquet, we asked each player to introduce themselves and tell us who was their favorite MLB player and what was their favorite eating spot. Each and every one of them said 'Big Jo’s!'" one person wrote on Instagram.

"Been going to you since 1982. Best burgers in LA county. Oh mustn't forget your wonderful fries," another said.

Big Jo's is a family-run business that opened in 1959. Its landlord is looking to sell the building, and Big Jo's owners expect a price increase they won't be able to pay, according to NBC4.
