SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica High School sheltered in place Thursday afternoon after a bomb threat was phoned in, authorities said. Authorities gave the all clear that the campus was safe around 2:32 p.m., at which point students were dismissed for the day, according to Samohi Principal Marae Cruce.

Authorities did not find a device or suspicious items on campus, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. Authorities search the area Thursday afternoon.

Students were still sheltering in place around 12:46 p.m., according to the Santa Monica-Malibu School District.

The school's switchboard operator received a phoned-in bomb threat around 11:42 a.m., claiming a bomb would go off within five minutes, Cruce said in a message to the school community. Police responded and students were told to shelter in place.

"Thank you for your patience during this Shelter-In-Place. We did this to ensure that we did not have movement around campus after a disturbing phone call that required investigation. Our students acted appropriately and were cooperative during this time," Cruce said.
