SANTA MONICA, CA — County health officials cautioned Santa Monica residents from being in the ocean, as bacteria levels exceeded state safety standards at multiple beaches.

The Los Angeles County Public Health Department collects samples weekly from various sites year-round to test and monitor bacteria levels. On Friday, the division found the ocean water at Santa Monica Beach exceeded state standards for bacterial levels.

Residents were urged to avoid the ocean 100 yards up and down the coast from the Santa Monica Pier.
