Over 18,000 Southern California Edison customers lost power Tuesday morning in Santa Monica with no estimate on when it would come back.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Over 18,000 Santa Monica residents lost power early Tuesday morning with no estimate on when it might come back.

The Southern California Edison outage reported at 6 a.m. Tuesday affects 18,616 residents. The outage was centered near Wilshire Montana according to the SCE outage map.

It was not immediately clear what caused the outage and there was no time estimate on power restoration as of 9:20 a.m., according to SCE. Crews were on their way to evaluate the outage just before 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Reports on social media showed traffic lights were out Tuesday morning, and the Big Blue Bus' call center and Blue: The Transit Store were closed.

The Santa Monica Main Library delayed its opening due to the outage and the fire department responded to a number of elevator rescues, the Santa Monica Daily Press reported.
