Pacific Park Ferris Wheel To Honor Kobe Bryant With Light Display

SANTA MONICA, CA — The Pacific Park Ferris Wheel will honor L.A. Lakers legend Kobe Bryant this week with a special light display. The display, which started last night, is dedicated to the legendary basketball player who died Sunday in a helicopter crash in Calabasas.

The 174,000 LED lights on the Ferris wheel will feature a custom computer-generated lighting program with displays of "LA + ❤ + 24" and "LA + ❤ + 8" along with Los Angeles Lakers patterns and transitions in gold and purple, according to Pacific Park.

The light display will run from sunset to midnight tonight through Wednesday.

The Pacific Park wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel with a lighting system that features 16.7 million color value combinations, while the programming and display software presents imaging up to 24 frames per second to display custom lighting, the Pacific Park press release said. The eco-friendly, enhanced LED lighting provides 81 percent greater energy savings than most Ferris wheel’s traditional incandescent bulbs, the press release said.
