Road Work Underway In Santa Monica; Traffic Delays Expected

SANTA MONICA, CA — Roads will be repaved in Santa Monica starting this week, city officials said.

The work is ongoing at different locations through Nov. 15. City contractor Excel Paving will grind out the top 2-inch layers of the asphalt street and repave it with new fresh asphalt pavement.

"Heavy equipment will be necessary to construct the new roadway," city officials said.

Drivers can expect delays. Lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction during some of the work.

Street parking will not be available. This work will take approximately four to five weeks.

Street pavement resurfacing segments are:

4th Street between Palisades Ave and Wilshire Blvd.

  • 10/18 - 1 day repair work
  • 10/25 thru 11/01 - 2 days of asphalt grinding & paving work

6th Street between Montana Ave and Wilshire Blvd.

  • 10/28 - 1 day repair work
  • 10/25 thru 11/01 - 2 days of asphalt grinding & paving work

Neilson Way between Pico Blvd. and Pacific Ave.

  • 10/18 thru 10/22 - 2 days of repair work
  • 10/27 - 11/07 - 2 days of asphalt grinding & paving work

Pico Blvd. between 16th St and Ocean Ave.

  • 10/18 thru 1022 - 2 days of repair work
  • 11/01 thru 11/12 - 5 days of asphalt grinding & paving work

23rd Street between Ocean Park Blvd. and Airport Ave.

  • 10/18 thru 10/22 - 2 days of repair work
  • 11/02 thru 11/15 - 5 days of asphalt grinding & paving work

"Please use alternate routes whenever possible," city officials said.
