Santa Monica Offers Free Bystander Intervention Training For Residents

To celebrate Santa Monica United Against Hate Week starting Nov. 12, residents will be able to take free bystander intervention training.

SANTA MONICA, CA — To celebrate Santa Monica United Against Hate Week starting Nov. 12, residents will be able to take free bystander intervention training.

The virtual training session will take place on Nov. 13 and aims to empower community members to take an active role in standing up against hate and intolerance, officials said. Attendees will learn how to safely intervene when witnessing harassment in public spaces.

"The week is an opportunity to remember that it is a community-wide effort to foster a safe, inclusive environment for all," city officials said in a statement.

Space for the training is limited, so residents are required to register for the Zoom call.

Santa Monica joined LA vs Hate in observing United Against Hate Week on Nov. 12-18. In addition to the training, the city council will issue a proclamation during the Nov. 14 meeting in support of United Against Hate Week and the LA County campaign.
