SANTA MONICA, CA — Summer weather may be here, but the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health is warning beachgoers not to swim in the water around the Santa Monica Pier.

The health department said that bacteria levels in the water around the pier exceed state standards, and may cause illness. Visitors are advised not to swim, surf, or play in that part of the beach, or at Mother’s Beach in Marina del Rey.

However, this map provided by the health department shows that nearly every other county beach is safe for swimming.
